Mastering Impactful Communications: From Strategy to Storytelling

From crafting a powerful comms plan to measuring campaign success, this course equips you with world-class strategies and tactics to deliver impact through your communications.

Our most popular course blends strategic communications, PR, marketing, and behaviour change campaigns. We’ll explore everything from campaign tactics and marketing funnels, to “OASIS” planning and AI tools.

Ideal for senior and mid-level practitioners, this full-day intensive programme will train you to become a leader in the world of communications.  

The course is split into 5 chapters:

  • We’ll explore how to set actionable objectives using marketing funnels and conversion rates to ensure your ambitions are fit for purpose. We’ll draw inspiration from the Space Race and the charity sector to cement what we’ve learned. 

  • Gathering data and transforming it into actionable insights is non-negotiable in communications. You’ll learn about research techniques, audience segmentation and targeting, and behaviour change frameworks including COM-B and EAST.

    We’ll use examples from the Metropolitan Police to bring to life what we’ve learned, and will explore the role of stakeholders in our communications.

  • This is the big one. We’ll dive into the role of integrated communications, crafting key messages, selecting the right tactics and channels, and allocating budgets and resources.

    We’ll introduce essential tools from PESO frameworks to risk matrices, and go through the core principles of effective campaign management. We’ll then bring these concepts to life through case studies including the Trojan Horse and the UK Government’s COVID-19 crisis campaign.

  • We’ll consolidate everything you’ve learned to build an effective communications plan using the UK Government’s OASIS framework. We’ll also explore benchmarking and evaluation models to measure success and apply key learnings for future campaigns.

  • We’ll explore the purpose of narratives and storytelling, and look at ways to elevate your PR efforts. We’ll also learn how to use AI to enhance your content and planning, along with other useful tools to support your team and wider day-to-day work.

The full-day programme is the perfect stepping stone for ambitious Comms Officers and Executives, and has been created to cover the skills that leaders want their teams to master.

This course includes an optional 45-minute mentoring session with our Founder to discuss content from the session, career development, and challenges and opportunities at work.

The course is split into 6 chapters:

  • We kick off the day by introducing structure and discipline into your communication planning, using the UK Government's “OASIS” framework.

    We'll also learn how to set actionable objectives using the “SMART” model and explore how marketing funnels can be used to map the actions of our audience.

  • As comms professionals, we are also brand guardians. We’ll explore the core elements that make a brand impactful and uncover key strategies to protect, strengthen, and elevate your organisation’s brand. 

    We’ll also focus on personal branding, offering insights on how to craft a professional image to advance your career.

  • Storytelling lies at the heart of effective communications. We'll explore how to create compelling stories and consistent narratives, as well as learn essential copywriting principles to drive impact with your audiences. 

  • We'll cover the fundamentals of different social media platforms, when to use each one and how to share content effectively.

    We'll also cover key principles for design and content creation, staying on top of social trends, and embedding best practices for newsletters and websites.

  • This chapter will equip you with the tools and techniques to embed measurement, testing and learning in your communications strategy.

    We’ll explore methodologies for evaluating outputs, outcomes and impact, helping you produce meaningful reports for your channels and campaigns.

This course will give you the tools to take control of your media relations with confidence. It will guide you from crafting compelling stories and writing press releases, to pitching to journalists and measuring the impact of your PR efforts.

This half-day intensive course equips you with the essential strategies and tactics to deliver impact through your communications, from crafting a powerful comms plan to measuring campaign success.

The course is split into 6 chapters:

  • We’ll kick off with the basics: what do we mean by PR, press, media, etc? We’ll dive into why we invest in PR, what it can do for our comms and our organisations, and building an audience-first mindset.

  • We’ll look at different story hooks and opportunities to get to get your message out there. We’ll explore how can we turn case studies into news stories, how we can turn research into click-bait, and how we go about choosing which stories to pitch and when to keep our powder dry. 

  • From writing sensational headlines to understanding how to structure your story, we’ll look at different formats you can use to write impactful press releases and web stories.

  • Understanding how journalists and media organisations work is key to the perfect pitch. We’ll explore relationship-building with the media, when and how to pitch your story, and reveal the biggest mistakes that journalists see.

  • We’ll explore the role of integrated communications to maximise the impact of your story, thinking about how you can leverage social media and other platforms. We’ll also look at the key principles of media interviews, helping you (or your spokespeople) stay on message with confidence.

  • We’ll explore how you can start using AI tools to support your PR work. We’ll also look at measuring success and implementing learnings for the future, as well as useful platforms and tools you can use to make your eve.
